The enigmatic and former GM vice president, Bob Lutz, has just finished writing his book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business. In it, Lutz chronicals his time at GM and the company’s inevitable collapse. He criticises the American auto industry, himself, his company, business schools and basically anyone who places figures ahead of common sense in business…
It is sure to be a fascinating read and CAR will review the book as soon as possible. In the mean time, have a look at Lutz talking (candidly, as always) to Autoline Detroit. I was only planning on watching the first few minutes, but ended up glued to the screen. Lutz pulls no punches and this is a fascinating look at how GM operated before its decline.
