We all love a good car chase here at CAR. Most petrolheads are thrilled by the sight of driving cars dangerously fast through tight city streets, the wrong direction down motorways, or over Alpine passes, and even through underground train stations, mainly because we don’t (and shouldn’t) attempt such things in real life.
Over time we have learned a few things from the movies and even posted about it, but every now and then we spot something that has us shaking our heads in pure disbelief. With that in mind we bring you a series of Improbable Movie-Car Stunts.
Associate Editor, Sudhir Matai get the ball rolling:
I love Bond movies. Aside from the secret agent’s penchant for danger, puns and fine women 007 has also been involved in some epic car chases, here’s a quick recount if you’ve not seen some of them already.
In Diamonds Are Forever even the amazing secret agent did the impossible. While being chased by Las Vegas Police Department’s finest 007 drove a Ford Mustang down a narrow alleyway. At the very end it closed up to less than half the musclecar’s width.
Not perturbed by the lack of space Bond flicked the ‘Stang onto two wheels and calmly drove through the passage. Only problem is he went in on right-hand side wheels and came out on his lefts… The film makers tried to right this obvious continuity error by inserting a few frames of Connery flipping the carĀ onto its left side mid-alley. But if the alley was wide enough to accommodate the car’s width why didn’t he just drive straight through in the first place…
