Remember when mood rings where all the rage and you could apparently tell what kind of a day your sister was having by the colour of the stone on her ring finger? Marketers alleged that these “magical” stones reacted to the heat from your body as your mood changed throughout the day. The tenser your sister was, the more red the ring would become, and the greater the chances of you having a bruised arm from the punch you were about to receive by further aggravating the situation…
Uploaded on 1 April, Peugeot claims in this demonstration video to have harnessed this technology for use in its RCZ. Using censors placed in the steering wheel, the entire car changes colour based on the mood of its driver. The specially-developed “mood paint” is able to change colour, from hues of green and yellow, to ruby red, depending on how relaxed, tense, or aggravated the driver is feeling.
Can you imagine how many ruby-red cars would be on South African roads on a typical morning commute should this technology ever make it to our shores?
