Hyundai’s first high-performance hot hatch is on its way and it’s looking at taking the Volkswagen Golf GTI head-on. It’s expected to officially show its face in the second quarter of this year but until then it still has a number of testing procedures to go through.
The video shows WRC competitor Thierry Neuville testing the i30 N in Sweden, where temperatures are said to drop all the way down to -30°C. According to Neuville, the i30 N feels quite close to a racing car and should give the average driver this sensation.
“The engineers have done a great job on the gearbox and the differential. There is good traction and good stability in the slippery testing conditions,” he said.
We also now know that the ‘N’ not only pays homage to its testing centre at the Nurburgring, but also symbolises the shape of an apex.
We’ll just have to see if this hot hatch lives up to the hype when it sees its European debut next season…
