A practically unused 1974 VW Beetle was discovered in mint condition in Italy and will be auctioned in Denmark.
The car was sold in Genoa, Italy to an elderly gentleman who had never owned a car before. He only used the Beetle for short Sunday trips to his local church and back home. As he got older he started going to church less and less and the car was last used in 1978, after which it was stored in a barn for almost four decades.
Silverstone Auctions say that the car has been lightly recommissioned before going on auction on 28 MAy at the Classic Race Aarhus Auction. The car still has its original set of tyres and the original oil in its engine. Even the tool kit is unwrapped and offered with it, along with the original books and invoice.
“The VW Beetle is one of the most successful and loved cars worldwide, and we’re no strangers to them at Silverstone Auctions,” said Nick Whale, managing director. “This one is a very special example and something we rarely see. With such an incredibly low mileage it is in virtually new condition, 42 years after it was first bought.”
The auctioneers are hoping to get between €35 000 to €40 000 (R620 000 – R 710 000), which about double the price that the current TSI Beetles sell for locally.
