Showcasing its dedication to sustainable mobility, UK-based company Bedeo has whipped the wraps off the Reborn Electric: Icons Land Rover Defender, a battery-powered classic Defender marking the beginning of the brand’s journey in retrofitting classic cars with all-electric power.
In addition, making use of “cutting-edge” in-wheel motor (IWM) technology to achieve this ICE-to-EV conversion, Bedeo is the first company to offer this tech set-up in retrofit packages for classic motor vehicles, the first of which coming in the shape of a Land Rover Defender.
Equipping the old-school Defender with this IWM tech, while preserving the go-anywhere off-roader’s rugged charm, Bedeo has managed to maintain the appeal of the Defender and, at the same time, eliminate carbon emissions. In addition, the company claims this Defender’s electric powertrain, coupled with its in-house-developed IWM tech, ensures the emissions-free Defender provides top-notch performance.

The Bedeo-converted Defender’s electric motors are coupled with a 75 kWh battery, which, when fully charged, provides a claimed all-electric range of 247 km. When plugged into a standard charger, the battery pack can be replenished in five hours, Bedeo says, while plugging it into a fast charger takes only 90 minutes to recharge the battery.
However, this initiative isn’t just about the Defender; it’s about transforming any vehicle into a sustainable icon. Bedeo’s IWM tech can be applied to any car, and meets the diverse needs of customers while reducing emissions and preserving automotive heritage.
Osman Boyner, Bedeo’s CEO, highlighted the importance of this step forward. He stressed the brand’s commitment to maintaining the essence of classic cars while embracing electrification. This means zero emissions, zero noise, and a driving experience that captures the nostalgia of classic cars while embracing modern technology.
