Volkswagen has announced that it will be unveiling a concept version of its new Beetle at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show that will be geared towards adventure motoring.
Called the Beetle Dune, the vehicle sports a slightly tougher look than the standard Beetle. It has large flared wheel arches, as well as new bumpers and side sills. Nothing has been mentioned regarding some sort of AWD system, so while the Beetle Dune will look more off-road ready than the standard version, it is probably safe to say that you’ll never encounter this Volksie on a 4×4 trail.
By the way, this isn’t the first Dune version of a Beetle that VW has created. It also unveiled a Dune Concept of a previous model in 2000 (the yellow Beetle pictured above is the previous concept car). This new version, however, might enter production as early as 2015.
We’ll post more info as soon as the vehicle is revealed at the show.
