The finalists for the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) were announced recently. The categories include World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, Green Car and World Car Design of the Year.
The list of contenders for World Car of the Year consists of 12 finalists from a wide variety of manufacturers. Oddly, the only SUV to make it to the finals is the Jeep Cherokee.
That’s quite an achievement considering the other vehicles on the list. The Cherokee is up against the Lexus IS350, Ford Mondeo, Infiniti Q50 and BMW i3, to name but a few.
Things get better on the World Luxury Car of the Year category. The SUVs are a force to be reckoned with in this category as they make up about 50% of the finalists. The models in this category include the BMW X5, Cadillac Escalade, Porsche Macan and Range Rover Sport.
Only the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV made the list for the Greenest Car of the Year, but, unfortunately, not a single SUV or off-roader managed to make the cut for the World Car Design of the Year category.
