Instant Gratification
On a recent camping trip in the Groot Winterhoek mountains with the new Chevrolet Trailblazer, we tested and were really impressed with the Coleman Fastpitch Instant Dome 5-person tent.
It took three minutes to get the tent from a flat piece of material into its dome shape and another three to secure the guide ropes and corners of the tent with tent pegs. That’s not too shabby for a first attempt, which includes time looking at the instructions.
Taking the tent down and folding it away took all of four minutes.
Made from UV-protected, fire-retardant, rip-stop fabric with an integrated groundsheet, we found the dome to be more than spacious enough for the three of us. You can fit two double inflatable mattresses inside, allowing four people to sleep quite comfortably, five would be a squeeze. If you are 5”6’ (167cm) or less, you’ll be able to stand upright in the tent, an added bonus.
The feature we loved the most is that you can open ‘windows’ on all four sides and zip closed the mosquito mesh, so that air can move through the tent freely but the bugs can’t. Perfect for a hot summer night.
The tent retails for between R2 000–R2 500 and is available from Campworld, Takealot and Trappers.
