Ford M151A2 MUTT vintage army off-roader up for sale

There’s something decidedly cool about an old military vehicle, like the Willys World War II Jeep (Ford) right here in South Africa, that we featured recently.

The 1972 Ford M151A2 in this picture is not as old or rare as the above mentioned Jeep but it still offers that vintage feel. It is currently up for sale on Craigslist (the US version of Gumtree) in Washington state.

Ford designed the MUTT – short for Military Unit Tactical Truck – to replace the Willys M38 and M38A1. The MUTT has an independent suspension and a unibody construction. While Ford built and designed the M151A2, AM General and Kaiser built a few M151A2s during its 23-year production run, too – the three companies put together over 100 000 MUTTs between 1959 and 1982.

The vehicle has about 64 400km on the clock and the owner claims that it’s in perfect running order. It’s just had an oil change and has a new set of tyres. It’s going for $12,000 (R161 123) and the  owner claims 95 percent of the parts are original.
