The Ford Ranger XL, the value offering in the Ranger-range, now benefits from an optional sport pack featuring extra goodies to make it a better-looking bakkie, and infotainment-boosts to boot.
The Ranger XL, from the single cab to the Double Cab, now boasts an optional Sport Pack (gloss black rims and trimmings and a tubular sports bar), the option for an upgraded Infotainment system and optional side steps.
“With the addition of the Sport Pack option we’re giving the Ranger XL more upmarket flair while enhancing its day-to-day practicality,” says Doreen Mashinini, General Manager Marketing at FMCSA.
Sport pack
A Sport Pack is not something to keep your wallet in when going to the rugby, it is a package of extras added to the already impressive features of the Ford Ranger XL, to give the owners a feeling of more upmarket flair while enhancing its day-to-day practicality. It breaks down to a high-gloss black grill (the thing that tells you that this is not just another Ranger XL, but one fitted with a Sport Pack), Panther gloss-black cast alloy rims (gasp!) with larger diameter 265/65 R17 tyres, a tubular sports bar and a black rear bumper.
You can also opt for side steps to help those shorter ones in the family, get into the cab with more ease.
Give me the info(tainment)
Customers now have the choice to upgrade from the entry-level SYNC® 1 system that comes standard on the range (only a 4-inch LCD display), to touchscreen infotainment system with eight inches of real estate to play with to increase ease of use, connectivity and driving safety – but no voice-recognition or navigation. When pairing with compatible smartphones, it gives you access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that gives you the option to use the phone’s voice recognition and navigation apps. It includes the usual Bluetooth connection options as well as two USB ports for even more multimedia options.
Standard features
The expanded options now available does not mean the standard features are in the doldrums. From ABS brakes with all the bells and whistles, to a difflock and tow bar as standard on all models (4×4 and 4×2 derivatives), dual front airbags ISOFIX child seat mounting points (on the double cabs only) and the usual safety and security features you expect from Ford.
The grunt from the front stays the same with the tried and tested 2.2-litre four-cylinder Duratorq TDCi engine (118kW and 385Nm) mated to a manual or automatic transmission in 4×2 and 4×4 offshoots.
Show them the money
By adding R16,500 to the base price of the XL series, you’ll get the Sport Pack fitted. For a further R6,080 the upgraded infotainment system is yours and R5,050 gets you the sidesteps fitted by the dealer. (VAT included in all prices).
