Land Rover’s Freelander is readier than ever for any adventure with a new limited edition model.
The Freelander has always been equally at home in the urban jungle or on the plains of the Serengeti thanks to the combination of four-wheel-drive and Land Rover’s award-winning Terrain Response system. But spotting one will be a rare pleasure indeed – just 32 have been allocated to South Africa.
The high-value newcomer – badged XS – adds both visual and practical appeal to the brand’s distinctive urban off-roader. Stand out features are a distinctive LED signature to its halogen headlamps, 17-inch alloys with an anthracite finish, and electrically-adjusted seats with partial leather trim.
Fold-down armrests enhance comfort and rear occupants can also make use of a central armrest with integrated storage and cupholders. Leather is also in evidence on the steering wheel, and a single USB port allows for multimedia connectivity.
Syncing neatly with the moody finish of the wheels is a Dark Atlas finish for the grille and side vents. Door handles, mirror scalps, rear bumper and door sills are body coloured.
For those who want to go one further, there’s an upgrade pack comprising a 320 Watt, 11-speaker Meridian audio system, Bluetooth phone interface and the acclaimed Extended Navigation which will ensure you find you way across huge tracts of the African bush and urban jungles as far north as Nairobi.
The XS is available exclusively with the 2.2-litre SD4 turbodiesel (140kW/420Nm), partnered by the six-speed sequential automatic. Pricing is R512 600 including a five-year/100 000km maintenance plan. For an additional R23 000 you can have the upgrade pack and the end result is a vehicle that wants for nothing and is ready for anything.
