Great Wall Motors (GWM) has been in South Africa fro 10 years and although it will remain in the country, Great Wall Motors of China took over its South African subsidiary, GWM SA, last year and has renamed it Haval Motors South Africa (Pty) Ltd.
Haval is the premium sub-brand of GWM and Haval products are popular in China, with the Haval H2 SUV selling over a million units in its home country, making it the most popular SUV brand.
Premium Haval products are set to be rolled out in SA – starting with the Haval H2 at the end of this month. (We’ve had the opportunity to drive the Haval H2 SUV ahead of the official launch and you can read all about it in our upcoming July issue of Lesiure Wheels that will be on sale from 19 June).
Following that will be the reintroduction of the H5 and H6 SUVs as well as the advent of refreshed Steed bakkie line-ups.
The front-wheel drive H2 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor that delivers 105kW and 202Nm of torque mated with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
The vehicle boasts a five-star C-NCAP rating and the interior is well equipped.
The company states that”the biggest surprise with the H2 promises to be its price, which will be announced at the launch, and which will certainly undercut the competition in this hugely popular segment.”
The smaller H1 crossover will debut at teh same time as teh H2.
Both the Haval and GWM brands offer a standard, five-year/100 000km warranty and all Haval’s come standard with five years’ road assistance.
