Hyundai to start production of Santa Cruz bakkie in 2021

By: CAR magazine

Hyundai has finally confirmed the planned production date of the highly-anticipated Santa Cruz bakkie.

Production will commence from 2021 and it will be built in the manufacturer’s plant in Alabama in the USA. This plant also builds the Santa Fe, which gives us the biggest hint so far as to what direction Hyundai is headed with this pick up.

The Santa Cruz is bound to be more lifestyle orientated, as it will use a unibody construction and all-wheel drive, rather than a ladder frame chassis and part-time four-wheel drive of full-time four wheel drive as most other bakkies use.

In order to build the Santa Cruz, Hyundai is investing more than a R1 billion in the plant.

The images you see here are of the Santa Cruz concept, which first made its debut last year.

The actual car has not been revealed yet, but with a release date set for 2021, it’s bound to show up at some motor show next year.
