Ineos has introduced the Grenadier Detour, a limited edition, meticulously crafted variant of the 4×4 SUV, to kickstart the company’s bespoke push.
The new Ineos Grenadier Detour will be showcased at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, alongside five unique prototypes developed by the company, including a V8-powered Grenadier and a rally raid racer. The Detour is the inaugural creation of Arcane Works, a newly established division within Ineos dedicated to offering enhanced customisation options for its customers, aiming to make their vehicles distinct both on and off-road.

Production of the Ineos Grenadier Detour is capped at 200 units, each one hand-finished in the UK. Buyers can select from four new exclusive paint colours – Magma Red, Whiteout Blue, Squall Green, and Storm Force Silver – polished by hand for an exceptional finish. Alternatively, customers have the option of providing a bespoke colour sample or matching a sample to an existing vehicle.
Unique design elements include specially designed 18-inch forged alloy wheels and a distinctive front grille. Additionally, a contrasting pack was developed exclusively for this model, offering new colour options for the front and rear skid plates, roof rails, and rear ladder.
Inside, the vehicle features quilted seat upholstery available in four fine-grain leathers sourced from Scotland’s Bridge of Weir, known for supplying luxury car brands like Aston Martin and McLaren. The headlining comes in two cashmere options from Johnstons of Elgin, a Scottish company with a long history of producing luxury fabrics and clothing since 1797.
Arcane Works branding is subtly incorporated throughout the vehicle, crafted by British jewellers Vaughtons, established in 1819. The interior also offers two choices for the satin finish on the transmission tunnel, doors, and air vents, along with various leather and fabric options for key touchpoints. Each Ineos Grenadier Detour features a laser-etched aluminum door scuff plate, highlighting its limited-edition status.
The Grenadier Detour is equipped with a choice of petrol or diesel BMW-sourced 3.0-litre straight-six engines, similar to the standard Grenadier. However, petrol models include a uniquely tailored exhaust system designed to enhance the vehicle’s sound profile.
Pricing details are yet to be announced, but given that the limited-edition Ineos Grenadier 1924 is priced at £79,140, it is expected that the exclusive Grenadier Detours could be priced well over £80,000.
For those unable to acquire a Detour, Ineos assures that Arcane Works will continue to produce special edition models, each with distinct features and a unique name.
George Ratcliffe, Commercial Director of Ineos Automotive, explained, “We chose the Arcane name for our new division because the limited-edition vehicles it creates will be so unique as to be rarely spotted in the wild. By working in small batches and hand-finishing the cars, we can offer a level of individuality not found in the 4×4 market. For our first launch, Grenadier Detour seemed an apt name as the Grenadier is for those who enjoy driving, and sometimes it’s worth taking the longer route.”
