Jeep Unveils First All-Electric SUV: The 2024 Wagoneer S

By: CAR magazine

Jeep has introduced its first fully electric vehicle, the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S, marking a significant step into the electrified SUV market. Set to debut in the United States and Canada in the latter half of 2024, the Wagoneer S will eventually be available worldwide.

This all-electric SUV boasts impressive specifications, including a range of over 300 miles (480 km) on a single charge and an astonishing 447 kW (600 horsepower). It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in just 3.4 seconds, with more than 800 Nm of instant torque. These performance figures are complemented by Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction management system to ensure all-terrain driving ability.

The Wagoneer S is built on the STLA Large platform, a flexible, BEV-native architecture that optimises length, width, suspension, and powertrain configurations. This design supports instant torque and rapid acceleration, providing a smooth and powerful driving experience. Additionally, the vehicle features an advanced 400-volt, 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack, capable of charging from 20% to 80% in just 23 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Jeep has also focused on ease of charging, offering every Wagoneer S Launch Edition with a 48-amp Level 2 home charger or equivalent public charging credits via the Free2move Charge app. This ecosystem simplifies finding and using charging stations.

The exterior design of the Wagoneer S looks to the heritage of the classic off-roader, while incorporating contemporary styling with a sleek, aerodynamic profile and a reimagined seven-slot grille that illuminates as the vehicle approaches. The SUV’s aerodynamic efficiency is underscored by a coefficient of drag of 0.29, the lowest ever for a Jeep vehicle. This is achieved through careful design, including angled roof and liftgate spoilers, flush pocket door handles, and integrated underbody shields.

Inside, the Wagoneer S continues to innovate with over 45 inches of screen space, including a segment-exclusive interactive front passenger screen. The interior blends luxury and technology, with high-quality materials and a fully digital cockpit. Standard features include heated and ventilated rear seats, a McIntosh sound system with 19 speakers, and advanced safety and driver-assist technologies.

The Wagoneer S will offer more than 170 standard safety and security features, ensuring a safe driving experience. It also supports over-the-air updates, allowing the vehicle to evolve with new features and improvements over time.

While Mercedes released their all-electric G-580 earlier this year, the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S represents another bold move into the electric future of SUVs and off-roading.
