Is Land Rover working on a V8 Defender?

It seems as if Land Rover is working on a rival for the Mercedes-AMG G63.

Autocar in the UK recently spied a new Defender that had some minor, yet important differences on the exterior. You can see those images on their Facebook post below.

Not satisfied with just the photographic evidence, Autocar took it a step further. They investigated, found the registration data for the specific car and the papers revealed that it was powered by a 4999cc petrol engine.

That should sound familiar, as all of Jaguar and Land Rover’s go faster models are powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre petrol engine. This unit sounded and performed absolutely beautifully when we tested it in the F-Pace SVR a while ago. 

It’s also worth remembering that Land Rover recently acquired Bowler, a company known for building high-performance previous-generation Defenders.
