Geared up to shake up the local bakkie market, the LDV T60 is heading to South Africa, with the latest entry to the heavily contested pick-up segment scheduled to arrive here in May 2024.
So, what can we expect from the T60? Well, for starters, the double cab is expected to sport a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine, coupled with a duo of turbochargers. Depending on the model, the oil-burner, which is available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or eight-speed automatic transmission, churns out a healthy 160 kW and 500 Nm of torque, all of which sent to the option of 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrains.
However, the comprehensive range of T60 bakkies won’t be the only vehicles available in LDV’s SA portfolio. Although the T60 will be the first to launch here, a couple of other LDV models will join the automaker’s local line-up.
Penned in for SA, is the D90, a seven-seater SUV, which will be equipped with what seems to be the same powertrain and drivetrain options as the T60 double cab. However, the latter will exclusively be equipped with an eight-speed self-shifter. In addition, the 4×4 variants will gain three diff locks.
Inside, the D90 will feature what LDV bills as the most modern infotainment technology to date. A JBL-tuned sound system will also be present, as will multi-zone climate control.
The third LDV model scheduled for SA shores comes in the shape of the G90, an MPV available with the option of a seven- or eight-pew seating arrangement. According to the brand, the G90 model range “offers a new level of luxury in the MPV segment”.
LDV also confirmed a range of commercial vehicles will arrive in SA, with the first model being the G10+, a medium-sized panel van sporting a 2.0-litre diesel powertrain, coupled with an automatic transmission, and 5.2 m3 securable cargo space, accessed via dual sliding doors.
Pricing for these models is yet to be released. However, LDV has announced that each will be sold with a five-year/100 000 km service plan and a warranty spanning the same number of years or 200 000 km.
