In 2024, the Scorpio-N claimed top honours in the Adventure SUV category at the South African Car of the Year awards. Now, in celebration, Mahindra South Africa has announced it has embarked on an “adventure-defining” expedition across SA and Namibia on “some of the toughest terrain that Africa has to offer”.

“In recognising the Scorpio-N as the winner of the Adventure SUV of the year, the SA Guild of Mobility Journalists tested both the on-road manners and off-road performance of the vehicle,” said Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra SA.
“We want to replicate their tests and rev it up a few notches to show that our build quality and the quality of the underlying engineering in the Scorpio-N make it the perfect companion to unleash real adventure, straight off the showroom floor.”
As a reminder, the Scorpio-N recently joined the Leisure Wheels and CAR magazine teams on the 2024 SUV Shootout, which comprised a road trip from the Mother City to the Tankwa Karoo and Sutherland, and back.
Based on a ladder-frame platform, the Scorpio-N is equipped with the firm’s mHawk turbodiesel engine. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder oil-burner churns out 129 kW and 400 N.m of torque, the latter of which is available from 1 750 r/min to 2 750 r/min. The powertrain is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, which incorporates a low-range transfer case.
