Mercedes-Benz took a look at its current SUV line-up and decided that there was still a gap between the GLA and the GLC.
As we know, the Germans don’t like gaps, so it will likely be filled by the GLB.
At the moment it’s still a concept, but it looks extremely close to production-ready to our eyes.
The square styling is certainly attractive, but it’s also functional. The added space meant Mercedes could fit a third row, which means it’s a full seven seater.
A widescreen cockpit faces the driver, from where he can operate the functions and displays via the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX).
The Concept GLB is powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an eight-speed dual clutch transmission, with a maximum output of 165 kW and peak torque of 350 Nm.
The power is sent to all four wheels via Merc’s 4Matic system, which features three selectable maps. In off-road mode the all-wheel drive clutch acts as an inter-axle differential lock, with the basic distribution a balanced 50:50.
Mercedes has not confirmed the GLB for production yet, but it looks like a no-brainer to us.
