“With the X-Class launch in 2017, Mercedes-Benz entered into a new segment and presented a mid-size pick-up. We drew in a lot of attention with this vehicle,” an unnamed source within Mercedes-Benz stated.

“Now it has been decided that from the end of May 2020, we will no longer produce this relatively young model. In our global product portfolio, the X-Class is a niche product which plays a great role in a few markets, including Australia and South Africa.”

Mercedes-Benz South Africa’s Sibusiso Mkwanazi confirmed the termination to us this morning. “It’s true. The X-Class will no longer be produced from May 2019,” said Mkwanazi.

If one looks at the registered global sales figures, the market did not respond well to the X-Class. Mercedes-Benz sold 16 700 units globally in 2018, which dropped to 15 300 in 2019.
