New Cayenne around the corner

By: CAR magazine

The Hybrid S, Porsche promises, will offer the performance of an eight-cylinder vehicle with the economy of a six-cylinder engine, with far lower and fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Fuel consumption is said to be in the region of 8,2 l/100km and CO2 emissions around 193 g/km.

All models in the new Cayenne line-up are said to be much more fuel efficient, thanks in no small part to a new Tiptronic S eight-speed automatic transmission with Auto Start Stop and a wide spread of gear ratios, as well as thermal management on the engine and transmission cooling circuit, on-board network recuperation, variable engine cut-off and intelligent lightweight construction. The overall weight of the vehicles has also been reduced, with the Cayenne S down by 180kg.

The range will comprise five models: Cayenne, Cayenne Diesel, Cayenne S, Cayenne S Hybrid and Cayenne Turbo.

The entry-level Cayenne will be powered by a 224 kW 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine, while the Cayenne Diesel is powered by a 3,0-litre V6 turbodiesel unit that produces 176 kW and 550 Nm of torque.

The Cayenne S features a 300 kW 4,8-litre V8 petrol engine that is more powerful and 23% more economical on fuel than the model it replaces.

A 3,0-lite supercharged V6 is mated to a 34 kW electric motor in the Cayenne Hybrid, which manage a combined power output of 284 kW and 580 Nm from just 1000 r/min, resulting in very similar performance to the Cayenne S with its V8.

The top of the range Cayenne is the Turbo, powered by a 368 kW 4,8-litre bi-turbo petrol engine.

Local prices and more detailed specs will be revealed closer to the date of launch, which has yet to be confirmed.
