New engine for Dacia Duster

By: CAR magazine

The Dacia Duster, or rather the Renault Duster as it’s known in SA, is now available with an all-new turbocharged petrol engine.

This aluminium-block 1198cc unit develops 93kW and 205Nm of torque. Ninety per cent of maximum torque is available from just 1,500rpm.

This engine is mated a six-speed manual transmission and an all-wheel drive system with three operating modes. The system can be locked in two-wheel drive (100 per cent of engine torque to the front wheels) or four-wheel drive (50:50 torque distribution), or put in Auto, in which case the torque balance varies according to the car’s speed and the grip at each wheel, up to a maximum of 50:50 front-to-rear.

It’s not yet clear whether this powertrain will make its way to SA, but since this powertrain is already in use in other South African Renault products, we’re willing to bet that it will eventually form part of the local line-up.
