Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has released fresh details about the seventh-generation Transporter; more specifically, about the upcoming model’s design. Here’s what you can expect…
According to Albert Kirzinger, Chief Designer at VW Commercial Vehicles, the new generation combines the exemplary degree of utility so synonymous with this people-mover with the “distinctive” styling of its namesake. However, Kirzinger says it is much more than just the Transporter’s overall lines that make it so distinct; it’s the individual styling elements (Kirzinger mentions the head- and taillamps, and the wheels) that have become “hallmark” features of the Transporter.

“Even supposedly small details such as side sill panel moulding or wheel arch extensions are elements where this combination of robustness and aesthetics fuse together to give the Transporter its unique DNA,” Kirzinger added.
The seventh iteration will be available with 19-inch ‘Indianapolis’ alloy wheels. According to Kirzinger, thanks to these items’ “iconic” design, even when the “VW” badge is disguised, it remains “instantly recognisable” as a “Transporter wheel”. The PanAmericana derivative, which will be launched as a more lifestyle-oriented and robust flagship variant, will be equipped with a set of diamond-cut alloys of the same size. LED headlamps will be standard across the line-up, with the PanAmericana model gaining LED taillamps.

The seventh generation will be available in standard and long-wheelbase guises, with the former’s bodywork measuring 5 050 mm in length and the latter’s 5 450 mm. At launch, the engine line-up will comprise diesel engines, with plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains joining the range at a later stage.
