Nissan South Africa has introduced a special-edition model to the Qashqai family, the new Midnight Edition.
The Qashqai range debuted in 2006, it was instantly successful and not much has changed since then. With every iteration of the Qashqai in the last 14-years, it’s managed to hold onto and gain market share. And it’ll continue to do so with the new Midnight Edition.
MIDNIGHT EDITION STYLING
Key styling changes to the Midnight Edition lie in the name, there’s plenty of gloss black detailing all round. The V-motion grille evolves from chrome detailing to all dark. The side-mirror caps change from body coloured to a gloss black finish, and it gets black gloss roof rails as standard. Bespoke to the Midnight Edition are 19-inch Wind alloy wheels, just a note that the spare is a 16-inch steelie.
The interior is not left out of the special-edition treatment, air vents and the gear lever are finished in black trim, with no more chrome detailing. The seats for the Qashqai Midnight Edition get Alcantara inserts for extra comfort, and the floor mats feature red Qashqai branding.
Technology is not lacking in the Midnight Edition, it’s enabled with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay technology controlled through the infotainment system with onboard navigation.
SAFETY FEATURES
Safety features include the latest in Nissan Intelligent Mobility systems. Features like Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection and Forward Collision Warning will assist with navigating the highways and byways. The Midnight Edition includes Forward Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Warning, and Cross Traffic Alert.
POWER PLANT
Before you get too excited let it be known that the Qashqai Midnight Edition is limited to one transmission configuration. Powered by the great 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbo engine it produces 85 kW and 165 Nm, and it’s only available paired to the CVT gearbox with all power sent to the front-wheels exclusively. Claimed fuel consumption is 6.2 l/100 km.

If the shiny chrome detailing previously kept buyers away from the Qashqai the Midnight Edition will bring them back. It looks good, particularly when paired with the darker silver/grey paintwork.
