Ford has has recently introduced the Wildtrak X variant to its already illustrious line-up of single and double-cab bakkies. The Wildtrak X offers a more off-road focused package to its intended buyer. Here’s all you need to know, including local pricing.
The Wildtrak X 2.0L BiT 4×4 10AT is priced at R1 013 000 by Ford South Africa, but it offers a compelling package for avid off-roaders, right from the factory floor. The robust model comes with the Ford Protect 4-year/120 000km warranty, a 4-year/ unlimited distance Roadside assistance plan, and a 5-year/ unlimited distance corrosion warranty.
Doreen Mashinini, the General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa, explains that the Ranger Wildtrak X is designed for those seeking more from their bakkie. Unlike other models in the Wildtrak lineup, this latest addition shares striking similarities with its commanding big brother, the Raptor, boasting a broader stance increased by 30mm and a raised ground clearance of 26mm.
Beneath its rugged exterior, Ford equips the Wildtrak X with specially tuned Holstein Position-Sensitive Dampers and an on-demand automatic four-wheel-drive system. Notably, the model introduces two new driver assistance features: Trail Turn Assist, which applies the brake on the inside wheel to reduce the turning radius by up to 25%, and Trail Control, a system that maintains a constant speed in off-road conditions, allowing the driver to focus on steering inputs. The Wildtrak X further enhances its off-road prowess with 17-inch alloy wheels and 265/70 R17 General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tires. As an extra perk, the new Flexible Rack System is offered exclusively for the Wildtrak X model.
The Wildtrak X also receives some aesthetic upgrades to differentiate it from the rest of the pack, including a new grille with integrated auxiliary lights and a steel bash plate, along with cast aluminium side steps, Wildtrak X badging, Black Ford oval badges, and Asphalt black finishing on elements like the bumpers and wheel-lip mouldings.
Inside the cabin, the layout remains familiar but features new leather seats with Miko suede elements and Wildtrak logo embroidery, adding a touch of refinement.
The introduction of the Wildtrak X, with its advanced off-road capabilities and well-rounded enhancements, raises the question of whether Ford has justified its new seven-figure price tag. Off-road enthusiasts will undoubtedly find much to appreciate in this new package from Ford.
