Seat has put its first ever SUV, known as the Ateca (named after a small town in Spain) on display at the Geneva International Motor Show.
The exterior design is nice enough but not the sort that gets your pulse racing. The car measures 4.36 m long, 1.84 m wide and has a height of 1.6 m, with a 2.64 m wheelbase and 510 liters of boot space.
Similar to the new Volkswagen Tiguan, it sits on the Group’s MQB platform, and is aimed to compete against other compact SUVs such as the Nissan Qashqai, Renault Kadjar, Mazda CX-5, Ford Kuga and Hyundai ix35.
The FWD Ateca comes with Traffic Jam Assist, Emergency Assist, ACC with Front Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Top View Camera.
Seat will launch the compact SUV in Europe in September with prices to star under €20,000 (R342 400) in Germany. The Ateca is equipped with a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine producing 84kW, connected to a standard six-speed manual transmission. The other petrol engine offering at launch will be a 1.4-liter with 110kW of power, joined by three diesels, a 1.6 TDI with 84kW and a 2.0-liter in two guises delivering 110kW and 140kW.
