Mahindra has two compelling SUVs in the South African market, the XUV700 and the Scorpio-N. Both vehicles promise an engaging driving experience, robust performance, and advanced technology. Design

XUV700: The XUV700 boasts a contemporary and aggressive design characterised by its striking front grille adorned with Mahindra’s new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo. Its LED clear-view headlamps with automatic boosting, LED daytime running lights, and sequential indicators give it a modern look. The sleek lines, invisible smart door handles, and prominent wheel haunches contribute to its sporty stance, making it visually appealing even when stationary.

Scorpio-N: The Scorpio-N continues the legacy of its predecessor with a more rugged and muscular appearance. The vehicle’s design includes pronounced wheel arches inspired by the physique of a swimmer, says Mahindra, and a distinctive metallic Scorpio tail element. The tall, stacked taillamp design enhances its commanding presence. Offered in six body colours, the Scorpio-N exudes a strong, masculine aura that underscores its off-road capabilities.

Interior

XUV700: Inside the XUV700, the focus is on sophistication and comfort. The cabin features the new Mahindra Super screen, which consists of two high-definition 26 cm digital screens for the digital cluster and infotainment systems. The interior also boasts high-quality materials and a panoramic sunroof, creating an airy ambiance. The AX7 L variant offers a premium sound experience with a 12-speaker SONY system, wireless charging, and electronic door handles.

Scorpio-N: The Scorpio-N’s interior is designed to offer a premium experience with its rich coffee-black leatherette upholstery and best-in-class command seating position. The center console is encased in robust metal-finished dual rails, adding to its upscale feel. The advanced infotainment system and intuitive layout enhance the overall driving experience, making it as appealing inside as it is on the outside.

Technologies

XUV700: The XUV700 is packed with advanced technologies aimed at enhancing convenience and safety. Key features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a customizable digital interface, and Mahindra’s Skyroof. Safety technologies are comprehensive, with ADAS features like Smart Pilot Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and a Blind View Monitor system. Additionally, the AX7 L variant includes a 360-degree bird’s-eye view camera system.

Scorpio-N: The Scorpio-N also emphasizes technology, offering an integrated 20.32 cm infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It includes a 3D Immersive Sound System by Sony for an enhanced audio experience. Safety is paramount, with six airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), and a driver drowsiness alert system. The Scorpio-N is the first body-on-frame SUV to achieve a 5-star GNCAP safety rating under the new crash-test protocols.

Powertrains

XUV700: All variants of the XUV700 come equipped with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, delivering 149 kW and 380 N.m of torque. This engine is paired with a smooth six-speed automatic transmission, offering refined performance and linear power delivery. The XUV700’s suspension setup includes multi-link suspension with FSD technology.

Scorpio-N: The Scorpio-N is powered by an mHawk diesel engine that produces 128.6 kW and 400 N.m of torque. It is available with a six-speed automatic transmission and offers an optional 4×4 system with 4XPLOR intelligent terrain management technology. Mahindra says this setup provides excellent off-road capability while maintaining exemplary on-road manners. The Scorpio-N also features Frequency Dependent Damping technology for a smooth ride.

Pricing and Warranties

XUV700: The XUV700 is available in three variants: AX5 (R494 999), AX7 (R549 999), and AX7 L (R589 999). Mahindra offers a comprehensive 5-year/100 000 km service plan, a 5-year/150 000 km mechanical warranty, along with 24/7/365 roadside assistance.

Scorpio-N: The Scorpio-N comes in five variants: 2.2D Z4 6AT 4×2 (R487 999), 2.2D Z8 6AT 4×2 (R534 999), 2.2D Z8 4XPlor (R585 999), 2.2D Z8L 4XPlor  (R620 999), and 2.2D Z8 4XPlor Adventure (R663 999). Mahindra offers the Scorpio-N with a comprehensive 5-year/110 000 km service plan, a 5-year/150 000 km mechanical warranty, along with 24/7/365 roadside assistance.
