The all-new 2017 Subaru XV will be launching in South Africa next month and this what we have gathered so far.
There are four trim levels (two of which will be heading to SA) but only one engine and transmission combination, namely a 2.0-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine mated to an automatic CVT. This engine is fuel injected unlike its predecessor and the new chassis ( 30mm wider than before) is lighter than previously, so we expect a little more oomph.
The XV is only available in all-wheel-drive. The entry level Subaru XV 2.0i CVT rides on 17-inch alloys, gets roof-rails, roof-mounted ‘shark fin’ antenna, rear roof spoiler, rear privacy glass, and colour-coded door handles and will cost R385 000. It makes use of the same 2.0-litre engine as the previous models, that has been tuned to deliver 115 kW (an extra 5kW), maximum torque remains at 196 Nm.
The premium model gets features such as 18-inch alloys and LED headlamps, leather seats, sat nav and a sunroof, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a reverse camera, active torque vectoring and and dual zone climate control.
This flagship variant costs R439 000 and adds Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance technology that helps to prevent crashes caused by driver error and fatigue. Subaru says the system monitors the road ahead (for up to 110m) by detecting the presence of vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and other potential hazards.
