SUV Preview: Renault Koleos

Second generation Renault Koleos in SA

We saw it at the Johannesburg International Motor Show, but now the Renault Koleos facelift is finally here.

It’s about time, too, since the original was launched in 2008. Not lacking in popularity, however, the global sales count for the first generation Koleos is over the 130 000 mark. Here’s what’s new.

The Line Up:

The Koleos derivative line up has been scaled down. Now, it is available only in Dynamique trim with a 2,5 petrol engine. Still, we’re happy with the engine size, and we know this SUV can perform off-road, so there are no complaints on that point.

Power:  126kW

Torque:  226 Nm at 4 400r/min

Ground Clearance: 206 mm

A 2,5 litre 4×4 SUV is bound to be pricey, yes? No, because you still have the option of purchasing a 4×2 Koleos at over R15 000 less. You also have the option of a six-speed manual transmission or CVT gearbox on the 4×4 derivatives, while the 4×2 comes with a six-speed manual ‘box only.

The 4×4 drivetrain comes with hill start assist and hill decent control, and have selectable modes of 4×2 or 4×4 LOCK.
