Signifying the Blue Oval brand’s return to the local midsize-SUV segment, the all-new Ford Territory recently made landfall on South African shores. An important product in Ford South Africa’s portfolio, with the Territory, the company aims to gain back, ahem, territory, in this hotly-contested segment.

Recently, the firm released an “exclusive” behind-the-scenes video to give its fans a look into the production of the newcomer, which, as a reminder, is manufactured at Jiangling Motors Corporation’s (JMC) Nanchang factory in China and exported to a variety of markets around the globe. The latter includes Asia Pacific markets, “key” South American markets, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa, with SA being the first right-hand-drive market where the Territory was launched.

Locally, the Territory line-up is available with the choice of three trim grades: entry-level Ambiente, mid-tier Trend, and flagship Titanium. All models employ Ford’s 1.8-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged motor (as opposed to the 1.5-litre EcoBoost powertrain sited below the bonnets of the models sold in other countries). As a reminder, the 1.8-litre unit, which is exclusively coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, churns out 138 kW and 318 N.m of torque.
