Toyota Land Cruiser 300 – more details

By: CAR magazine

The Toyota Land Cruiser successor to the 200-series had broken cover. Leisure Wheels asks the important questions.

When will it be in South Africa?

August this year.

What will it cost?

We’re not sure – detailed specification and pricing will only be available at launch. Expect it to play in the R1.3 – R1.8m range.

The engines?

There are two all-new engine options. A 3.5- litre twin-turbo petrol V6 and 3.3-litre turbodiesel V6.  The petrol V6 – from the Lexus LS500 – delivers 305 kW and 650Nm and the new diesel manages 227kW and 700Nm (a 32kW increase and 50Nm hike compared to the outgoing 4.5 turbodiesel V8). Both engine options are coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission (with the obligatory low-range included).

And the versions?

Three grades will be offered locally; the utility-minded GX-R, the urban-focussed ZX (replacing the VX-R) and the off-road biased GR Sport. Each variant will feature a bespoke specification line-up.
