The Chevrolet Trailblazer, which will be coming to South Africa soon, has gone on sale in Thailand.
The bakkie-based SUV was unveiled recently at Bankok International Motor Show in Thailand, and is also being built in the country.
Though we will have to wait and see what engine options will be offered locally, the model launched in Thailand is available with a choice of two engines. Both oilburners, the first is a 2,5-litre powerplant that produces 110 kW, while the second is a 2,8-litre mill that offers 132 kW. A choice of two drivetrains is offered – a five-speed manual transmission and a six-speed automatic featuring electronic shift-control with clutch-to-clutch capability and an electro-hydraulic control module.
As mentioned, the Trailblazer is a bakkie-based SUV, making use of the Chevrolet Colorado’s underpinnings. Locally, this segment is dominated by Toyota’s Fortuner, so Chev’s SUV will be facing tough competition when it arrives here. However, it seems as if the vehicle might just have what it takes to give the almighty Fortuner a go.
In addition to an eye-catching exterior, the vehicle boasts tons of comfort and safety features, as well as a third row of seating, something that is highly valued in this segment.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed when the Trailblazer will arrive in South Africa, GMSA has said that it will arrive sometime in 2012.
