Volkswagen have revealed the T-Roc crossover to press in Italy ahead of the official public debut at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show.
This is the fourth and smallest of Volkswagen SUVs after the Atlas, Toureg and Tiguan and the first to offer a dual colour paint job. Buyers who would like the two-tone appearance can opt for the roof colour in Deep Black, Pure White Uni, and Black Oak Brown Metallic.
The newcomer sits on the same MQB platform as the VW Golf and the Audi Q2, with which is shares a striking resemblance and at 4 234mm the T-Roc is 252mm shorter than a Tiguan. Boot space is 445 liters, which expands to 1 290 liters with the rear seats folded down.
The T-Roc will go on sale in Europe first (before the end of this year) with three petrol and three diesel engine options. The entry level front-wheel-drive 1.0-liter TSI petrol mill produces 85kW and comes with a six-speed manual gearbox. The 1.5 TSI delivers 110kW and is available with a six-speed manual gearbox driving the front axle or a seven-speed with front- or all-wheel drive. The final petrol engine, the 2.0 TSI produces 140kW and is mated with a dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.
The base diesel mill is a 1.6-liter 85kW, with a six-speed manual box and front-wheel drive. The first 2.0-liter diesel engine produces 110 kW and there is the choice of a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions with either front- or all-wheel drive. The top-of-the-range diesel is a 2.0 TDI that puts out 140kW mated to the seven-speed DSG, with all-wheel drive.
The interior comes a 6.5-inch standard infotainment system or the optional eight-inch display. Volkswagen’s Active Info Display, the 11.7-inch digital instrument display to replace the traditional analog gauges is also on offer.
Volkswagen have included a wide array of safety and assistance systems in the T-Roc. Even the base units come with city emergency braking and pedestrian monitoring as standard, along with automatic post-collision braking and a lane keeping assistant.
