Late last year the Western Cape provincial government took the somewhat controversial decision to release actual surveilance footage of six rather alarming traffic accidents that were captured on roads around Cape Town. While some of these proved difficult to watch, there can be little doubt that shock tactics of this nature can play a part in creating awareness of what is actually happening – and how quickly accidents happen – on the very roads that we share.
It would seem that the Irish government shares this view and has released a rather shocking advert (aired on television as opposed to the Western Cape’s internet example) showing a re-enactment of the potential consequences of not buckling up.
Note that although this is a re-enactment, it is still difficult to watch and may upset sensitive viewers.
