Yesterday we brought you a video of a horrific accident on the most recent stage of the Dakar Rally. We reported that the crew from El Martillo Racing escaped the incident without serious injury.
What we didn’t know at the time is the reason the driver and co-drivers, MattĀ Campbell, Luiz Ramirez andĀ Nicolas Ambriz, escaped with their lives was mainly thanks to a South African team competing at the event.
The number 383 Nissan Navara driven by Johan van Staden and Mike Lawrenson were first on the scene and quickly reacted to the fiery situation by deploying their own fire extinguisher. Well done chaps.
