Four times World Champion Alain Prost has hailed Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher as one of the best drivers of all-time.
Schumacher is on the verge of breaking Prost’s record of 51 Grand Prix victories after triumphing at the French Grand Prix on Sunday.
“I feel he deserves to have this kind of record,” Prost told the BBC. “You cannot win more than 50 races if you are not any good and Michael is one of the best of all-time.
“But at the end not many drivers have won more than 50 races and I will be one of them.”
Only Prost and Schumacher have achieved that mark. The late Ayrton Senna, who won 41 Grands Prix, is the next most successful driver.
But Schumacher says the records do not mean that much to him.
“Records are something nice to look back on when you are retired,” he said. “Our (Ferrari’s) only focus is on the fight that is in front of us – that is the main thing.”
