David Coulthard may be on the verge of losing the battle for the 2001 world championship title to Michael Schumacher, but he can take comfort from the fact that quite a few women would like to date him.
According to a survey commissioned by Egg Sport, the sports division of online British bank Egg.com, many of the women polled thought motor racing was the most glamorous sport.
Coulthard topped the poll of celebrity dates, with 76 per cent of the women selecting the Scot as the man they would like to date.
Two thirds of British women polled (67 per cent) consider racing drivers to be their dream date compared with only nine per cent who picked footballers. It was also the most popular choice of career, according to 38 per cent of the men. It seems they all want the glamour, money and the lifestyle. Only 14 per cent wanted to be footballers.
The bank did not say how many people were polled.
A spokesperson for Egg Sport said: "David Coulthard, Eddie Irvine and Jenson Button all emerged as sport stars that women find sexy.
"Motorsport is more exciting than football, cricket and other popular sports and of course there is the element of risk and danger which gives it much greater sex appeal."
