Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn said his team would work hard ahead of the British Grand Prix later this month to improve the car.
Brawn admitted after the French Grand Prix on Sunday that the Ferrari was just not quick enough. “We’re disappointed, but I’m not going to talk just about the tyres, it is the whole package. Williams has a very good package at the moment, and this year is more normal in F1 where one team can move ahead at one race. It is our job to come back at Williams and be more competitive.”
Brawn said Ferrari has big plans to test, ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 20.
“We have new aero and chassis pieces and some new tyres for the next tests,” he said. “In previous tests we have looked good but faced different conditions in the race weekends.”
Japanese tyre manufacturer Bridgestone also promised to fight back against Michelin. The Ferraris of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello were its only runners in the points.
“While valuable points were gained today for Ferrari, this afternoon’s race was very important and we will learn from it,” said Bridgestone’s technical manager Hisao Suganuma. “I am sure the loss of this race will serve only to inspire us to produce better and faster tyres.
“We have an important few days of testing next week at Barcelona and Mugello/Fiorano, working hard with four of our teams and we will be testing a number of development specifications. We will strike back, there’s no doubt about it,” he said.
