This retro offering from Mini has a fully automatic Z-mechanism soft roof that folds behind the rear seats with the push of button in 15 seconds. It also has a ‘sliding roof mode’ where the top can be opened by 40 cm at speeds of up to 120k/hr.
There have been some additions and improvements. The A-pillars are made of steel and there will now also be electric windows at the rear. To protect the occupants in case of a rollover, there are two small aluminium roll bars directly behind the head rests of the rear passengers.
The boot capacity with the roof up is 165 litres – with the roof down it is 120 litres.
Two new paint colours have been developed exclusively for the Cabriolets – Hot Orange and Cool Blue. And while the Mini One’s roof will only be available in black, the Mini Coopers’ have a choice of black, blue and green. Body coloured side mirrors will come as standard.
The interior has also been given a splash of colour. Body coloured dashboards will be an option in addition to the existing choice of silver, anthracite, aluminium and wood. A new dark blue ‘Gravity’ leather will be offered on both versions.
The wheel selection also increases with 15-inch steel wheels as standard on the Mini One convertible, while a new 17-inch five star bullet alloy wheel will be reserved exclusively for the Cooper cabriolet models.
The Mini One Cabriolet and Mini Cooper Cabriolet are powered by the same engine as their hard-top counterparts. In Mini One Cabriolet guise, the 1,6-litre engine produces 67kW and a top speed of 175km/h. Zero-100km/h is reached in 11,8 seconds.
The Mini Cooper Cabriolet has an output of 85kW and a top speed of 193km/h while the zero-100km/h dash is covered in 9,8 seconds.
The Mini Convertible will have standard ABS, EBD (electronic brake force distribution) and CBC (cornering brake control) as standard features. Automatic stability and traction control as well as Dynamic Stability Control will be available as optional.
The Mini Cooper S Convertible will be released at a later date.
