In what has become a tradition of creating bizarre concepts for the Geneva show, Rinspeed has created another world-first that can actually drive, swim and fly (well, sort of…) across water!
The Rinspeed Splash, a combination of amphicar, hydrofoil and roadster, uses a turbocharged two cylinder 750cc engine and Natural Gas to achieve these feats. The engine produces a maximum output of 92kW.
It is claimed that as a two-seat sports car, the Splash will cover the zero to 100km dash in 5,9 seconds. The rear-wheel drive machine has a top speed of 200km/h.
A hydraulic mechanism converts the road car into an amphibious vehicle in two ticks, and as a powerboat, the Splash can hit about 50km/h.
Thanks to its hydraulic foldable wing design and electronic system, the Splash can then be converted into a hydrofoil. Achieving lift, it can glide at about 60cm above the water’s surface and in this mode, travel to a top speed of about 80km/h.
