IRL champion Scott Dixon tried out for the Williams-BMW team late last week and so impressed team technical director Patrick Head that he might be called to fill Juan Pablo Montoya’s seat next year.
New Zealander Dixon participated in testing last week and though he suffered physically during the test with soft neck muscles, he was excited about the experience.
“It’s definitely what I want to do,” he told news agency AFP, “I would get back in the car today if I could!”
Having acclimatised himself to the machine, Dixon will now have three more test days, commencing April 7, with Williams in Barcelona so that the team can assess his potential as a possible driver for next season.
Montoya has already signed with McLaren for 2005 and Jenson Button and Mark Webber have both been mentioned as possible replacements for next season.
”There are a number of people that we are interested in,” said Head.
”A number have limiting clauses in their contracts that might mean they are – but might mean they aren’t – available.”
