General Motors SA (GMSA) has announced that John Astbury, Andre Lahoud and Llewllyn van Antwerpen have been appointed to new management positions at the Port Elizabeth-based manufacturer.
According to a spokesman, Astbury will become GMSA’s quality manager on February 1. Astbury (45) was previously the company’s direct procurement and supplier quality manager. He began his career with the then Delta Motor Corporation as quality systems manager in the vehicle assembly operations division.
Lahoud will succeed Astbury. Prior to the appointment, Lahoud was general manager of exports and was based at General Motors’ worldwide purchasing arm in Detroit. Lahoud (42) began his career with the company in 1990 as business analysis operations manager. He progressed through a number of financial assignments before his appointment as general manager of exports.
Van Antwerpen, previously the commercial vehicle line platform manager, becomes the company’s component exports manager. He began his career with the company in 1990 and was later appointed to the executive position of vehicle marketing manager and relocated to the company’s office in Johannesburg.
“To improve alignment between General Motors’ worldwide purchasing arm and GMSA’s component export initiative, responsibility for component exports will transition to the procurement and engineering department,” the company said in a statement.
“Lahoud and Van Antwerpen will report directly to Evan Dold, GMSA director of procurement and engineering. Astbury will have a dual reporting relationship with GMSA president and managing director Robert Socia and General Motors’ Latin America Africa & Middle East director for quality, Dale Hammer,” it concluded.
