According to Porsche, the new 911 GT2 RS is the fastest and most powerful road-going sports car in the company’s history. At the heart of this remarkable machine is a revised version of the 3,6-litre flat-six unit found in the previous GT2. Fitted with a pair of variable-geometry turbochargers and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, this unit channels a tarmac rippling 462 kW to the rear wheels, which are shod with model-specific tyres (245/35 ZR 19 at the front and 325/30 ZR 19 at the rear).
Porsche claims a 0-100 km/h time of 3,4 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h, as well as the aforementioned 7m, 18 secs Nürburgring-Nordschleife time.
While power is up by 67 kW over the GT2, weight has come down by 70 kg thanks to the extensive use of Carbon-Fibre Reinforced (CFR) components. Dynamic driving aids include Porsche’s Active Suspension System, unique anti-roll bars and engine mountings, and a recalibrated version of the Porsche Stability Management System, with stability and traction management modules that can be switched off individually. Stopping power is provided by Porsche’s Composite Ceramic Brake set-up.
In terms of exterior styling, the 911 GT2 RS is distinguished by matte black-finished CFR appointments on the front and rear spoilers, flared front wheelarches housing wider lightweight alloy wheels and GT2 RS decals on the doors and engine lid.
The interior features lightweight bucket seats hewn from CFR, lightweight door panels with fabric straps in place of handles, and a red on black colour scheme with Alcantara accents.
More pictures and details will emerge closer to the car’s official Moscow Motor Show debut in August, with worldwide sales of the 500 units commencing shortly thereafter.
