Alfa Romeo has updated its 159 and given its saloon two new engines, new trim levels and a new market positioning to make it more competitive than ever.
The all-new 1,75-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivers 147 kW between 4 750 and 5 500 r/min. The maximum torque of 320 N.m is available at 1 400 r/min. It’s mated with a six-speed manual transmission that helps send this 157 from zero to 100 km/h in 7,7 seconds before it reaches a top speed of 235 km/h.
The other engine is Alfa’s proven V6 3,2-litre petrol unit. The carmaker claims that, although it’s not new to the range, the application is. Power is 191 kW and torque is 322 N.m at 4 500 r/min. This engine, teamed with a six-speed manual gearbox, is now available without the Q4 all-wheel-drive system, while the six-speed auto ‘box comes with this system.
There are three trim-levels available for the 159 – Progressive, Distinctive and Ti. Standard across the range are seven airbags, Isofix anchorages, stability control, traction control and hill assist. The Progression trim is only available on the 1750 TBi 159 and offers distinct styling features such as double chrome exhaust pipes, 17-inch spoke-design alloy wheels, front fog lights and halogen headlights. The Distinctive trim on the 3,2 model adds electrically-folding heated side mirrors, interior trim inserts in black aluminium, leather/fabric combo upholstery, sports instrumentation with white backlighting and multi-functional display, and a Blue&Me hands-free communication system with USB port.
The top-of-the-range Ti package is available with both engines. This trim level adds, among other things, a special Ti exhaust, lowered sports set-up with red Brembo brake calipers featuring Alfa Romeo designation, sports skirts and 18-inch turbine-design alloy wheels with matt black finish.

The 159 comes standard with Alfa’s five-year/150 000 km warranty and is covered by a six-year/105 000 km service plan. The new model range is also covered by the AA Fleetcare roadside-assistance for three years.
