Kia Motors SA will unveil two of its most eagerly anticipated new models, the Optima and the all-new Rio, at this year’s Johannesburg International Motor Show.
The Optima, which made its world debut at last year’s New York Motor Show, will provide Kia Motors South Africa with a stylish entrant into the compact saloon segment. Several engine options are available across world markets, with South African models probably comprising 2,0- and 2,4-litre petrol four-pots, delivering 122- and 131 kW respectively. Power is delivered to the front wheels via six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
“With the all-new Optima, our global design team, under the direction of Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, has created a truly unique vehicle with distinctive dimensions and proportions to challenge the D-segment. The Optima will challenge German brands currently dominating this segment, and provide consumers with an alternative, when shopping for a luxurious mid size sedan”, comments David Sieff, National Marketing Manager: Kia Motors South Africa.
The all-new Rio hatchback was designed with the European market in mind and features bolder, more youthful styling than its somewhat staid predecessor and a choice of four engines with outputs ranging from 55- to 82 kW.
Kia Motors South Africa will launch the Optima locally in early in 2012, with final pricing and specification levels confirmed closer to that time.
