Audi has grown the A1 line-up with the addition of the five-door Sportback model, revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show currently taking place. The newcomer will debut in South Africa during the second quarter of 2012.
Although it looks hardly any different to the funky A1 three-door hatch, the Sportback's roofline has been stretched and raised to ensure reasonable space for rear occupants. Overall, the car is only 6 mm wider and taller than its three-door sibling. In Europe the car will be offered as a four-seater as standard, with a fifth seat available as an option. We'll have to see whether it will be the same in South Africa.
The local engine line-up is expected to be identical to the A1 three-door model's and the personalisation options will be carried over, too. So expect to see 63 kW 1,2 TFSI, 90 kW 1,4 TFSI, 136 kW 1,4 TFSI and 77 kW 1,6 TDI models.
