Alfa Romeo has finally unveiled the production version of its 4C lightweight sportscar ahead of this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
The production-spec 4C, which hasn’t stylistically deviated all that much from the original concept, will be produced by at Maserati’s plant in Modena and will see the Alfa Romeo marque return to the United States.
The 4C measures in at 4 000 mm long, 2 000 mm wide and 1 180 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2 400 mm. Not far off the dimensions of a Lotus Exige.
Power will be provided by a revised version of the 1,8-litre turbopetrol currently used in the Giulietta QV. This unit features an aluminium block, direct fuel injection, model-specific intake and exhaust systems and a scavenging control system that Alfa claims will negate the turbo-lag that plagued the previous unit.
The power output has yet to be confirmed, but it’s widely believed that it will be in the region of 177 kW. There is also talk of more powerful road- and track-oriented Stradale models with as much as 198 kW on tap, as well as a roadster variant.
Alfa has not yet divulged any details regarding the 4C’s weight, but working on the 1 horsepower per 4 kg figure being extolled by Alfa’s engineers and a potential 177 kW power output, the 4C could tip the scales at around 950 kg.
This unit will be coupled with a TCT dual-clutch transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifters and will feature Alfa’s DNA drivetrain management system with normal, sport and all-weather presets.
More information and pictures will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5th.
