Chrysler has released images of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee way in advance of its official unveiling at the New York International Auto Show and it’s fair to say that the newcomer is a touch more eye-catching than its forebear.
While the signature seven-slot grille remains, Jeep has dispensed with the old model’s bluff-nosed front in favour of a more curved treatment. But it’s the headlamp arrangement that’s a real talking point.
A seriously narrowed-down take on the company’s more streamlined lights sit above a set of conventional headlamps, both of which appear to feature LED strip elements. Below the grille sits a prominent trapezoidal front air dam with a chromed frame.
The rest of the new car’s sheet metal also looks to have moved away from the old model’s angular lines and adopted a more rounded, modern form.
Jeep has not yet disclosed any details regarding the new car’s engine line-up, but the petrol offering is likely to comprise a 3,0-litre V6 and Chrysler’s 2,4-litre Tigershark four-cylinder unit. The diesel range could feature 2,0- and 3,0-litre turbocharged engines.
The new Jeep Cherokee will make its official debut at the New York International Auto Show in late March and is reportedly destined for our market during the final quarter of 2013.
