Jaguar didn’t keep us waiting too long for the hard-top version of its sportscar. The British manufacturer picked the Los Angeles Auto Show to unveil the coupé version of its F-Type sportscar. The F-Type Coupé range uses the same engine line-up as the convertible, except for the F-Type R Coupé.
It new Coupé range kicks off with the supercharged 3,0-litre V6 engine delivering 250 kW at 6 500 r/min and 450 N.m from 3 500 r/min. The sprint to 100 km/h is dealt with in 5,3 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h.
Next up is the F-Type S Coupé using the same engine, but here it delivers 280 kW at 6 500 r/min and 460 N.m from 3 500 r/min. The dash to 100 km/h dips to 4,9 seconds and top speed is set at 275 km/h.
The F-Type R uses the supercharged 5,0-litre V8 engine, but in the coupé version it delivers 405 kW at 6 500 r/min and 680 N.m from 2 500 r/min, in effect 40 kW and 55 N.m up on the convertible equivalent.
According to Jaguar there is no weight difference between the coupé and the equivalent convertible models.
A spokesperson for Jaguar Land Rover South Africa confirmed to CAR magazine that the F-Type Coupé will arrive in June 2014. No pricing has been confirmed yet, but expect both the entry-level coupé and the S Coupé to cost less than the convertibles’ R870 000 and R999 900 asking prices.
However, the F-Type R Coupé will retail for around R100 000 more than the F-Type V8 S, leading to a price of around R1 530 000.
